But a 35 tire is going to put more strain on the drivetrain to perform and to haul the 4WD over obstacles off-road. Yes, it gives you the extra 1 of clearance, however, there are negative aspects to it as well.

Inch Tires On 22 Inch Rims

Of course, there are a few things to keep in mind if youre planning on doing this.First, 33 inch tires can be quite a bit heavier than smaller tires, so make sure your vehicle can handle the additional weight. Youll also want to be aware of the fact that your speed and gas mileage may be affected. And, finally, be sure to get the right size rims to fit your tires. Otherwise, you could end up with a very dangerous situation on your hands. If youre willing to take these risks, though, installing 33 inch tires on 22 inch rims can give your car or truck a whole new look. Just be sure to do your research first and be prepared for the potential consequences.
Tread Pattern And Biting Edges
You can easily distinguish between a tire thats good for snow and one that isnt just by looking at the tread pattern. Tires designed for warmer conditions usually have less prominent tread pattern to increase the contact patch with the road. That helps greatly for driving on dry and wet pavement, but its worse for driving over snow.
Tires that have a deeper and more prominent tread pattern are better for driving over snow. More precisely, the more tread blocks there are on the tire, the better it bites into the snow. Most all-terrain tires are also equipped with small sipes built into the tread blocks, which further increases the number of biting edges. The busier the tread pattern, the better it works on snow.
Now, all-terrain tires have a more aggressive tread pattern by default, which is why most of them work excellently over snow. However, when choosing a new set, always look for the small zig-zag sipes. Tires with zig-zag sipes will work much better for driving on snow, providing you with extra traction and stronger braking.
With that said, the tread pattern on all-terrain tires can start to wear over time and thats especially true for the smaller sipes. For dry conditions, that shouldnt make a big difference, but wet and snow performance will start to degrade. Usually, you need to replace the tires sooner if you want to keep the snow traction and braking on a high level.

An Overview On Nexen Tires
Nexen Tires has been around for more than seven decades, starting as Heung-A Tire Company in 1942. In 2005, the company moved into the U.S. under the brand name Nexen Tire America, while also continuing to build manufacturing facilities and offices across the world.
Whether youre looking for a tire to provide stability for off-roading or you just want a tire for everyday use, Nexen has you covered. The company specializes in innovative designs that improve traction in a variety of road conditions. In fact, the company has won several design awards for its unique concepts.
The brand Nexen was chosen because it combines two words: next and century. The company prides itself on having no recalls in its history, due in part to the extensive testing each tire undergoes before being released to the public. Both the quality and reliability have made many top car manufacturers include Nexen as original equipment on their vehicles, including Volkswagen, Chrysler, Hyundai and Mitsubishi Motors.
One of the biggest ways Nexen sets itself apart is through the tread pattern on its tires. The company strategically places waves, grooves and V patterns that improve traction in a variety of road conditions. This helps it grip corners, handle wet conditions like snow and rain with ease and, in some cases, manage muddy conditions if you want to take your vehicle off-road.
What 35 Tire Owners Have To Say
Owner Experience #1
My Sahara with 35×12.5 KO2s on 18×9 rims with a Mopar 2 lift. The tires are closer to 34.5 in diameter. All KO2s for 18 rims are E rated. They are stiffer and heavier than C rated tires. This translates to a firmer on road ride. As for power loss, I cant speak to that yet because Im only at 1200 miles and havent really been above 4000 rpm. Im doing an oil change at 1500 miles and will know more about the power loss then. Im also not a lead foot. What I do know is that I havent seen 8th gearever. Though, I do see 7th.
Owner Experience #2
I noticed the difference right away My All-Terrains performance for one better traction compared to the same tires in the 33 size. Rocky sections of trail that required me to get out of the Jeep to scope out a route dont require that anymore. After running 35s for 4 months, 33s for 12 years, etc. I cant see myself downsizing after running this larger tire size.

How Big Of A Lift Kit Do I Need For 33s
In order to lift your vehicle to fit a 33-inch tire, you would require a minimum of a 2-inch lift kit. In addition, it will help if you use a front-end leveling kit on the front end. Tech Tip: Finding Street Pressure For Larger Tires
When you increase the tire size, those factory pressure recommendations go right out the window. If your stock 225/75R-15 tire had a 29 psi street rating, the 31×10.50 you replaced it with might need only 22psi to carry the same load. You need a certain volume of air to support a given amount of weight, regardless of the tire size. When you have to carry that weight on a small tire with a small internal volume, you have to really pack it in and this increases pressure. Putting the same volume of air into a larger tire, which has more internal volume, creates less pressure but it carries the same weight.
A typical 35 x 12.50-15 might show a maximum load rating of 2550 pounds at 35 psi. That means at 35 psi, those four tires can carry 10,200 pounds, or 5,100 pounds a pair. Your Jeep weighs 4,500 pounds. How much pressure do you need again? There are many ways of finding the new street pressure for a new set of big tires. All involve some trial and error. Here’s one way.
First, divide the weight at each end by two to get the individual weight on each tire. Take the per-tire weight and match it to the chart the get the pressure you need for that weight. If the pounds don’t match exactly, move up to the next higher pressure. These load vs inflation charts will look like the one in the sidebar, which is a generic version for some popular tire sizes from the Tire & Rim Association.

Can I Put 33 Tires On 17 Rims
Theres a lot of variables to consider when it comes to tire and rim sizing, so its tough to give a definitive answer to this question. Generally speaking, however, its not recommended to put 33 tires on 17 rims. The main reason for this is that the tires will be significantly wider than the rims, which can cause a number of problems. For one, the tires will protrude outward from the rims, which can cause them to catch on objects or get caught in potholes. This can lead to flats or even blowouts. Additionally, the extra width of the tires can throw off the balance of the vehicle, making it harder to handle. And finally, the tires may rub against the suspension or body of the vehicle, which can cause damage over time. So, while its technically possible to put 33 tires on 17 rims, its not advisable. If youre looking to go with a wider tire, its best to upgrade to a wider rim as well. This will provide a better fit and a safer, more reliable ride.

Mudders And Rock Tires
The more aggressive the tread design, generally, the better the trail performance. The open tread design of a mud or rock tire divides the tread into small blocks, leaving many void areas. In mud this makes for a tire with lots of edges that work more or less like paddles. The void areas are open enough that the mud that collects in them can be thrown out via centrifugal force, leaving the tread blocks open to supply grip as they rotate back down into the goo.
On rocks, the blocks of tread are more flexible to conform to irregular surfaces and have many biting edges with which to grip the surface. On top of that, the ground pressure on these blocks of tread is high. In some cases, the weight of the Jeep is concentrated on just a few of these tread blocks and are practically glued to the rock.Whats the difference between a mud and rock tire? Often very little if we are talking about radials. Most radial mudders perform very well in rocks. Not so much the bias ply. The specialty rock tires differ from a true mudder in way the tread blocks are staggered and aligned and many times are directional. Often, the biggest difference is in the composition of the rubber. Dedicated rock tires often use a softer rubber compound to offer better grip. Grip will be very much better than a standard composition but treadwear will be very much reduced when used on the street. Some rockcrawling tires also use extra plies in the carcass to resist sidewall damage.
Inch Tires For 22 Inch Rims

The increased height will change the vehicles center of gravity, which can make it more difficult to control in turns and at high speeds. If youre planning to do a lot of off-roading or performance driving, you may want to reconsider this upgrade. Finally, keep in mind that 33 inch tires can be quite expensive. Youll need to purchase new rims to accommodate the larger size, and the tires themselves can be pricey.
