When Should You Replace Tires

Honda Odyssey Spare Tire Location

There are two regular milestones that will suggest that its time to replace the tires, not only on your Odyssey, but any vehicle in your driveway: Time and mileage.

Considering most drivers cover between 12,000 and 15,000 miles per year, the vast majority of Odyssey owners are going to be past the mileage that their original equipment tires were intended to cover before theyll go past the tires usable age.

The life of your tire can be somewhat predicted by its UTQG rating. Tire manufacturers apply their own grades to tires for treadwear, traction and temperature. When youre researching tires online, a UTQG will come up next to the tire name in three digits and a number .

You can glean a bit of info from the tires by reading this rating:

  • 500 – The durability rating of a tire, compared to a control tire with a treadlife of 100. To obtain a grade, tires run on a 640 kilometer course for 11,520 km. Every 1,280 km, the tread depth is measured, to provide a projected tread life. The higher the number, the longer the predicted treadlife.
  • A – This is the Traction rating of a tire, which indicates how well a tire stops in wet conditions. The highest letter grade is AA, followed by A, B and C.
  • A – The second letter in the UTQG is the Temperature rating, which indicates how well a tire holds up to extreme heat. A is the highest, followed by B and C.

Wheel Fitment Specifications Per Generation

BAGGED 2010 Honda Odyssey TE37 Ultra | Wheel and Tire Specs REVEALED!

To fit a wheel properly on your Odyssey, youll need to know more aspects than just the bolt pattern. Below weve outlined all the factors you should be aware of for each generation of the Odyssey. These include: center bore diameter, wheel tightening torque, whether lug nuts or bolts are used, and the thread size of the bolts.

We also want to clarify that the below-listed specifications are the same for all models within that generation. The Odyssey, of course, comes in different trim levels and engine options. However, these bolt patterns, lugs used, and torque specifications do not change for other models within a generation.

Furthermore, we also listed the exact tire and rim size used with each engine option to give you a precise idea of what tires you can and cannot buy.

Honda Odyssey Tire Reviews

Had to replace two of them after only 7 months. Now the other two are causing problems and the belt is broken in one. Have had them rotated and balanced regularly but they have been no good from the beginning. I only have 26,000 miles on the original and they are supposed to be rated for 85K.

Overall:

To the people whose money is very valuable, this is a very important message to you. DO NOT BUY YOKOHAMA. last year I bought these YOKOHAMA ICE GUARD tires, I spent around $1000. As soon as they were on I noticed they were sliding. When i would drive it skids. I had on my regular summer tires in the first snow the year before and they performed better then the YOKOHAMA ICE GUARD. This year the same problem i noticed, my summer tires perform much better. I contacted YOKOHAMA they basically got my money so they were making me go back and fourth to the shop and YOKOHAMA. As being such a big company they did not care about the customer. I would never buy YOKOHAMA and I would always recommend people to not buy YOKOHAMA, because you can find better winter tires for cheaper.People, don& #39 t find out the hard way do your research from before.AND TO YOKOHAMA, YOU HAVE FOUND A CUSTOMER THAT WILL DEDICATE IN MAKING SURE PEOPLE DON& #39 T BUY FROM YOU. ALSO YOKOHAMA, BE PREPARED TO FIND THIS MESSAGE ALL ACROSS THE WORLD.& quot IN TODAY& #39 S WORLD ONE CUSTOMER CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.& quot

When Or Why To Rotate/change Tires

Suppose youre changing your tire. You also need to know when to change or rotate it precisely. Lets first talk about changing your tires. Tires usually last around 60,000 75,000 miles or 4-5 years. After this period they need to be replaced. Sometimes this happens earlier, and therefore, its a good idea to keep an eye on the tread wear indicators. These are shown in the image below. These indicators show when the tires have only 1.6 mm or less tread remaining.

Another occasion when youll need to take off your tires is when youre rotating them. In the owners manual of the Odyssey, its said that this needs to happen every 7,500 miles or 12,000 kilometers. Its advised you rotate the tires in the exact way thats shown below. The front tires are moved to the back, and the front tires move crisscross to the front.

What Is Recommended Winter Tire Pressure For Honda Odyssey

Tire pressure fluctuates with ambient temperatures. When temperatures drop, Honda Odyssey tires may lose approximately 1 psi of air pressure for every 10 degree Fahrenheit decrease. During winter Honda Odyssey tires can be inflated 3 to 5 psi above the recommended tire pressure settings to compensate for lower temperatures. Do not overinflate above the maximum tire inflation pressure value indicated on tire sidewall. Make sure to check tire pressure regularly in the winter to keep tires properly inflated for a safe ride on snow and icy roads.

Changing Honda Odyssey Tire Sizes

Depending on the year and model, you may be shopping tires to fit anything between 15-inch for older models to 18-inch wheels with various widths and sidewall sizes along the way. It is possible to change the wheel and tire sizes, but a general rule of thumb is to keep the total diameter of wheel and tire the same. So, that means that downsizing an 18-inch wheel to a 17-inch wheel would include a proportionate upsizing of the tire sidewall to compensate.

Downsizing wheels has its advantages. Benefits include:

  • Better ride quality More rubber means more cushion for poor road conditions.
  • Cost reduction Big tires are expensive, so moving to a smaller wheel size will mean less costly tire purchases.
  • Seasonal changes Winter and snow tires are available for a larger selection of smaller wheel sizes and the narrower footprint will provide better traction.
  • Off-road Many people choose to downsize wheels for off-road use to increase the vehicles shock absorption capabilities and bump traction on loose surfaces.

On the other side of the coin, going up in wheel size has its benefits:

  • Better handling Slimmer profile tires makes for less rubber to move around .
  • Better looks This ones subjective, but many people feel that larger wheels look better than smaller wheels with more rubber.
  • Better braking Larger, wider wheels provide a bigger patch of rubber on the ground to slow the vehicle, reducing braking distance.

The Exact Bolt Pattern Of A Honda Odyssey

Categories Minivans

Weve written extensively about the Honda Odyssey and numerous questions you can have about this car. Today, we will talk about the information you need to have to select the correct new tires or rims for your Odyssey. Specifically, well take a look at the bolt pattern for each generation. However, that certainly doesnt tell the whole story. Below weve outlined the bolt pattern in more detail for each generation. We also discuss what lugs/bolts are used precisely, the exact diameter of the center bore hub, and the torque specifications of the bolts. Why Is Honda Odyssey Tire Pressure Light On

If Honda Odyssey TPMS warning light comes on and stays on, it means at least one of the tires is underinflated. If TPMS warning light goes on and off, fluctuating ambient temperatures may be the reason. If Honda Odyssey TPMS warning light flashes for 90 seconds when you start the vehicle and then remains illuminated, the TPMS is not functioning properly and you should have it serviced.

Why Not Replace With Original Equipment Tires

Theres no harm in replacing your tires with the shoes it came with from the factory. However, depending on what kind of driver you are, there are significant reasons to purchase something different.

You only need to purchase ONE set of tires for your car every four years or so, depending on how much you drive. When an auto manufacturer purchases tires, they buy them by the hundreds of thousands. For the manufacturer, the decision to choose a supplier one brand or another comes down to a price point.

For you, your consideration may be completely different. If you could get a tire that stopped 20 feet shorter for an additional $10 per tire over the original equipment, youd probably do it. Similarly, if there was a tire that made less road noise for a minimal investment over stock, youd probably decide on the slightly more expensive tire
